WMATA Operations and Training Facility

Washington Metro Carman Turner Operations and Training Facility

Time: 12:30 p.m.

Length: 2.5 hours

Description: A behind-the-scenes view of Washington’s Metro system. View the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority’s rail operations control center, bus operations and communications center, and emergency management training facility. The tour will include the rollover rig and tunnel mockup used for training first responders.  

Restrictions: As we will be walking throughout the duration of the tour, comfortable clothing and footwear is advised. The tour is generally accessible to persons with disabilities.

Departure Location: Meet at the Capital Hilton at 11:30 a.m., or at the Landover Metrorail Station at 12:25 p.m. We will take the employee shuttle (L99) from the Landover Metrorail station at exactly 12:30 p.m. The Carman Turner Facility is at 3500 Pennsy Dr., Hyattsville, MD 20785. Limited parking is available across the street at WMATA’s Landover Bus Depot.

Security Requirements: All participants must provide name and other identifying information in advance for WMATA Police to perform a background check. We will contact participants registered for the tour for information in advance of the conference.

Admission Fee: Each tour participant must pay their own subway fare to Landover (approximately $3.50 one-way from the conference hotel).

Capital Hill Congressional Briefing

Time: Leave Capital Hilton at 3:00 pm
Briefing starts at 4:00 pm

Length: 1 hour

Maximum number of participants: 100

Departure Location:   Main entrance to the Capital Hilton on 16th St.  We will walk to the MacPherson Square Metro stop, take the Metro from there to the Capitol South Station, and then walk to the Rayburn Building.

Description: A briefing by staff from the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee on the congressional transportation agenda for 2019.  Both Democratic and Republican staff will participate.  The Briefing will take place in the Committee’s main hearing room, room 2167, in the Rayburn House Office Building, on Independence Ave. SW between South Capitol St. and First St. SW.  The staff will make short presentations, followed by opportunities for questions from the TRF attendees.
